![]() That means you needĮnough or large enough tie points to be able to hook more than one ratchet strap on to. ![]() That you'll need to be able to run several to handle the dynamic load. And, if you have to use the better consumer grade ones (2.5" nylon strap) That means that even IF there are tie points inside, that you have ratchet tie downs that will You'll need a very solid means to keep the half ton of standing metal STANDING in one place. Many of these trucks do NOT provide inside TIE DOWN points (places to rig to)!! Well, yeah you can get the rig upright and up the lift and into the truck. Check out the TRUCK NOW, before you commit. highways you can drive a little slower and stand a better chance of avoiding the missing pavement. The Gates lay on its back in the bed of my 3/4 ton pickup but I did take the back roads instead of the interstate on the way back since all of the roads in IL are lousy but at least on the old U.S. I have been lucky in that the only big transmitters I have moved (Johnson Desk, Gates BC-250GY) were already largely disassembled. Uncle Ray is a very cool looking transmitter and it sounds like the move is going to be memorable. Of course with a RWD vehicle the parking brake/transmission brake are no longer effective so the whole affair goes "mobile". Uncle Ray doesn't weight enough to cause this but one of the funniest (if you don't own it) sights you will see is someone putting so much weight on the rear of a trailer that it causes the tow vehicle rear end to lift during the loading procedure. During my consulting time with the NICB I saw some really ugly post accident reports of flying objects. You don't want anything in the cab, bed, or trailer launching where it can hit you during a panic maneuver. When I was in college I had a summer job moving RV trailers from IN to the MS gulf coast and rarely did I make a whole trip without at least once having someone merging on in front at a sedate 20 MPH. Just secure it so you don't have anything moving around when you have to make a fast stop because of the idiot who decides to pull out in front of you. Within reason, keeping some weight in the bed of your pickup over the rear axle will improve towing stability so that is a good place for the removed iron. Also pull all of the knobs and anything else that could shake loose and fall off during transport. Not to make any more work for you but if the meters are not too difficult to remove, I would do so to protect the glass and movement from the shocks that are going to happen while loading and trailering the unit. Hopefully you will get plenty of volunteers. This is the best laid plan I can think of at the moment, but it will be subject to change as info changes & events occur. For anyone coming a long way, I'll be happy to put you up for friday night as well. Wifey and I will be riding back down to Charles Town saturday afternoon/ 250 miles distance one way point to point. How many will commit to giving me a hand with Ray? I need 3+ strappers at my end. ![]() I can pay all involved gangstas an over night lodging cost at the local Holiday Inn Express which is 3 miles from my house, so you can come up or down Saturday and have your own room to crash in after the relocation work is done on Saturday evening. FLASH!!!!! Fred just gave me a call and said that the riggers said it would be a price I can afford to pay to get it out and load it upright with the iron still in it!!! This will mean a change of plans to a truck with a electric liftgate instead of a trailer.įred is going to give me a weekend thats best for him anywhere between 2 to 6 weeks from now so anyone involved
